Letter to the Editor: A spineless party in and outside the college

Middlebury College Democrats have recently emphasized their bipartisanship. They have consistently invited College Republicans to partake in joint meetings. This has been discussed in a Jan. 15 Campus article co-written by the leadership of Middlebury Democrats and Middlebury Republicans. This development ...

Notes from the Desk: Signing off

My first assignment for The Campus almost four years ago took me to the basement of the Ilsley Public Library, where I remained for a superfluous three hours, asking visitors about the household cleaning products they were making for an Earth Day event. While not inherently a thrilling task, the article ...

“Oh my god. It was the most awesomest thing, ’cause leading up to it, you’re like ‘I can’t do it! I can’t. I can’t! And then, bam, I can!’” said Tonya Harding in the fictionalized account of her life –– “I, Tonya,” after completing a triple axel. The triple axel involves 3.5 ...

Finding Kerouac: A West Coast literary sojourn

Even before I booked my plane ticket to San Francisco, Calif. (on a whim), I had wanted to go to City Lights Bookstore — the old gathering place of the Beats, where Allen Ginsberg’s “Howl” was first published in 1954, and where generations of Beatniks continued to pay homage.

How might capturing Maduro be different this time?

On Jan. 3, the second-to-last day of the winter holiday that I may fully cherish, I saw the news that the U.S. forces had captured the paramount leader of Venezuela at the time, Nicolás Maduro. It all happened at such speed that when I read the news, the secret operations had already succeeded: Maduro ...

From both sides of the boards: a sports editor's sign-off

I came to Middlebury as a figure skater with five years on Team USA, trying to figure out how to balance training in college and exploring other interests. As an Aaron Sorkin devotee, I'd romanticized the fast-paced world of journalism through “Sports Night” and “The Newsroom.” I loved writing. ...
