In the first half of the 2023 season, the Middlebury baseball team has continued their dominance from last season. After losing their first two games of the season, Middlebury has won 10 of their last 12 games and improved to a 10–4 record overall. This stretch includes a 5–1 spring break trip to Los Angeles.
With the spring season firmly underway, Middlebury teams are busier than ever trying to come out on top. Here is a comprehensive summary of games to watch at Middlebury this week:
For the majority of Middlebury’s spring sports teams, the seasons are going well. Most of the teams are shifting away from the out of conference portions of their schedules and beginning to play crucial games against their NESCAC rivals. This past weekend, Middlebury played a number of highly contested matches against regional foes.

This past weekend, select members of the women's track team competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The door to the Custodial Office on the basement level of Forest Residence hall was open when I walked past. I was drawn in after noticing posters and a colorful lei covering the walls. Soon after, the custodian working the hall entered, and I was enthusiastically greeted by a woman named Lee Brouillard.

More than 250 sophomores voted for a Student Government Association (SGA) Sophomore Senator in a special election held on March 6, with B Striker ’25 winning the spot. SGA also announced the new Feb Senators Shane Silverman ’24.5 and Anthony Makhovik ’26.5, who ran in an uncontested race.
Many students eating at Middlebury’s dining halls over the past few weeks have noticed changes in the availability of some meal-time offerings, including Nutella and weekend-morning smoked salmon. Though some students speculated about budget cuts, the real reason some items have disappeared from serveries across campus is inflation.
The Middlebury baseball team opened their 2023 season on March 4 in Montgomery, Ala. at a tournament hosted by Huntingdon College. The team went 1–2 in their play during the tournament.
The Middlebury women’s hockey team earned one of the four at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships, marking the third straight season that the team has made it to the tournament.

Faculty addressed the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in a panel discussion on Feb. 14. Approximately 70 students attended, alongside a handful of other faculty and community members.
The Lost Monarch Coffee Bar, located in the Stone Mill in downtown Middlebury, announced on Instagram in late January that it is closing permanently. Co-owners Matt and Alessandra Delia-Lôbo will continue to operate their other coffee shop, Royal Oak, located at 30 Seymour Street, with expanded hours.

The Middlebury Board of Trustees met on Jan. 27 and 28 for their winter meeting in Monterey, according to the college’s announcements. The Board reviewed the finances, academic planning and other projects for Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS).

Febs in the class of 2022.5 participated in a modified version of the “Ski-Down” — a traditional event in Middlebury’s Feb Celebration for 30 years in which graduates ski, sled or walk down the Middlebury College Snow Bowl in their caps and gowns. Due to Feb. 4 weather forecasts showing windchill temperatures of -22 degrees Fahrenheit at the Snow Bowl, the college decided to move the Ski-Down to the Middlebury Chapel hill on campus.
