Pitch an article or op-ed

The Campus is always excited to receive submissions from students and the greater Middlebury community. To submit an op-ed, learn more about article and op-ed guidelines or receive further guidance, please email campus@middlebury.edu. (Or visit our news tips page to submit an anonymous tip).

Op-ed submissions must be received no later than the Sunday of the week in which it will appear in print. Our print schedule can be found here.

Op-ed Policy:

The Campus has the right to refuse any op-ed submissions for any reason at our discretion.

The Campus op-ed pages are not a forum to publicize personal complaints against individuals, and we exercise the right to reject submissions that include accusations against individuals, including students, staff and faculty.

Op-ed Submission Timeline:

You are welcome to send op-eds in at any point in the week, but they must be received by Sunday for publication in the following Thursday’s issue. We review them on Sunday nights, and leave suggestions and feedback within the Google Drive platform. (Note: if you didn’t already send us your piece as a Google Doc, we’ll convert it into one for ease of access and efficiency). You will review our feedback and accept or reject our edits on Monday and Tuesday, and the piece will be finalized on Tuesday night. We then publish on Thursdays in print and online.

Op-ed Removal Policy:

As a general rule, The Campus does not remove op-eds that were previously published, even if your opinions have changed. As temporary stewards of this newspaper and this record, it is not in the power of any one Campus administration to choose to delete things from the record. Please consider this when publishing an op-ed in The Campus. You may reach out at campus@middlebury.edu to appeal your situation, but know that we rarely make exceptions. In most cases, we will offer you the opportunity to write a response to your own op-ed for publication.
