Open Mic at Carol’s
Jan. 21, 7 p.m.
Have something to say? Bring your friends to Carol’s Hungry Mind Cafe this Friday for Open Mic night. Sign-ups start at 6 p.m. and the evening of entertainment kicks off at 7 p.m. It is sure to be a night of laughter. Call the coffee shop at (802) 388-0101 for more information.

Face-off Against Breast Cancer tournament
Jan. 22 and Jan. 23, all day
Take part in the 12th annual local fundraiser for the Cancer Patient Support Program’s emergency fund. Twelve women’s hockey teams from all across Vermont will be competing to raise money for the cause. Cheer them on at the Memorial Sports Center, located at 296 Buttolph Drive. On Saturday, there will be an after-party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Two Brother’s Tavern. A local band, The Horse Traders, will provide music, and all are welcome!

Celtic festival
Jan. 29, 8 p.m.
Still around for a day after classes end? Cap off a great Winter Term with a trip to Town Hall Theater to enjoy Middlebury’s third annual Celtic festival. Musician Patrick Webb, Irishman for Hire, will lead an evening of traditional Irish song and dance. The bands Longford Row and O’hAnleigh, along with the McFadden Academy of Irish Dance bagpiper Tim Cummings will also perform. For tickets visit the theater’s box office or call

Softball tournament
Jan. 29 and 30
Get a group of friends together and support a great cause! The “Snow Much Fun” annual softball tournament will be held at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, N.H. The entry fee for all teams is $225; the proceeds generated by the coed tournament will go to help Prevent Child Abuse Vermont and New Hampshire. Italian dinner
Feb. 4, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Sick of Ross and Proctor? Join The Knights of Columbus of St. Ambrose Parish as the group hosts a “Knights in Italy Spaghetti Dinner.” Enjoy a Friday night of savory Italian cooking! Tickets are $8 for adults and only $4 for children under 12.

Back Country Ski Clinic
Feb. 5 and 6
Celebrate the winter weather with a trip to Bolten Valley Resort! The Girls Move Mountains club is sponsoring a two-day trek to Bolton Valley, Vt. for a back country ski adventure. All women, ages 16 and up, are invited to sign up for the clinic. Beginner and intermediate skiiers are preferred, but instructors promise to provide step-by-step skills and techniques to all. Basics, like body position and edging, as well as more complicated moves like the telemark turn and diagonal striding, will be taught. Rentals are available.
